Brave Words, Gentle Steps

A Peace Path to Writing When You Feel Stuck or Overwhelmed

Write with Grace—Even When Emotions Rise, You Can Focus,

Create, and Finish Your Story

This isn’t just about finishing a book—it’s about showing up for your calling, one Spirit-led sentence at a time. Each time you return to the page, you’re building trust in your voice and partnering with God to bring healing through your words.

You feel called to write a story that holds weight, truth, and healing.

But every time you sit down, something rises up: the pressure to get it perfect… the fear of what others will think… the overwhelming swirl of thoughts that keeps your fingers frozen above the keyboard.

Friend, you’re not lazy.

You’re not disobedient.

And you’re definitely not alone.

I know what that feels like—

because I lived it. When I was writing Appeal to the Courtroom of Heaven, I struggled for years to get the words out. Every time I tried, emotion would hit like a wave—grief, doubt, fear of judgment. I knew God had called me to write it, but the process stirred up more than I expected. It wasn’t until I gave myself permission to write with grace instead of pressure that the message finally flowed.

What you’re experiencing has a name—and a way forward.

Whether you find yourself stuck in perfectionism, bouncing from idea to idea, constantly second-guessing yourself, or just feeling numb and disconnected when you try to write—there’s a reason for that. And more importantly, there’s grace for it.

This guide was created to meet you in those moments with understanding, gentle guidance, and Spirit-led tools to help you keep writing—even when your heart feels heavy or your thoughts feel scattered.

This PDF guide will show you:

  • Why writing your story isn’t just about the message—it’s about your healing, too

  • How to recognize what’s really happening when you feel stuck, scattered, or self-critical while writing

  • Gentle steps to help you return to the page with peace, not pressure

You don’t have to write through gritted teeth.

You can write with peace.

You can move forward gently, one word at a time.

Hi! I'm Shonda Whitworth

I’m a writing and self-publishing coach, and I’ve had the joy of helping hundreds of Christian authors turn their God-given message into a published book. I’m passionate about equipping aspiring writers like you to move from idea to impact with clarity, confidence, and grace.

My journey began in 2008 when I attended my first Christian writers conference—and I’ve been writing ever since. Over the years, I’ve published hundreds of articles for blogs, online columns, newspapers, and magazines. I’ve also written a Bible study called Wild Grace: Experiencing Your Spiritual Splendor, which I now share exclusively with my clients. In 2020, my book, Appeal to the Courtroom of Heaven: Petitions for Prisoners and Prison Families, was released by Iron Stream Media.

I’ve served behind the scenes for several years with a major Christian writers conference, first as an assistant editor and then as part of the annual conference staff. And for over nine years, I worked as a Production Manager for two Christian publishing houses—helping bring manuscripts to life as polished, professional books for the marketplace.

Now, I coach Christian non-fiction writers who are ready to answer the call to write, walk in their purpose, and share their stories with boldness and grace. I’d be honored to help you take your next brave step.
